About Dr. Amiri

Maryam Amiri, PSYD

Doctor of Clinical Psychology

Welcome to Epona! I am glad you’re here and look forward to the opportunity to work together. I am a registered psychologist in British Columbia, Canada, offering psychotherapy to older adolescents and adults in both English and Farsi. In addition, I provide life coaching for English-speaking expats living in the Netherlands, helping them navigate personal and professional challenges in a new cultural environment.

I received my doctorate from The George Washington University in 2016. During my doctoral training, I gained experience in diverse clinical settings, including the Superior Courts of DC, Georgetown Counseling Center, George Washington University Center Clinic, and the Domestic Violence Services of House of Ruth.

My training focused on working with transgender individuals at various stages of identity exploration, women who have experienced domestic violence, and juveniles involved in the judicial system. I completed my predoctoral internship at Stony Brook University (State University of New York), where I worked with young adults navigating life transitions, high achievers struggling with perfectionism, individuals experiencing psychotic episodes, and those dealing with relationship challenges, depression, and severe anxiety

Prior to obtaining my doctorate, I earned a master’s degree in psychoanalysis from Middlesex University in London. Having lived in multiple countries and experienced diverse cultures, I am passionate about helping expats navigate the challenges of building a new life in an unfamiliar environment. I speak English and Farsi fluently and have some understanding of Dutch and Arabic.

As a professional athlete, one of my key specializations is working with elite athletes to overcome mental barriers that interfere with performance, manage the pressures of high-stakes environments, and establish healthy boundaries in their industry. I help athletes recognize and break free from toxic patterns, develop mental resilience, and cultivate a mindset that fosters both success and well-being.
